Cattolica
According to tradition, the date of foundation of the town of Cattolica traces back to August the 16th, 1261, when the inhabitants of the castles of Focara moved to the present town of Cattolica and submitted to Rimini.
Ever since the beginning, Cattolica had to undergo continuous fights and battles against Rimini, the church of Ravenna, the State of Saint Peter and the Malatesta family, who ruled over the town until 1504. Many archaeological findings show evidence of the great influence of the town ever since Roman times, as it was a place of rest and shelter for passers-by and pilgrims who used to travel all over these areas.
Cattolica could count more than twenty inns and taverns as early as the year 1500. The tourist market began back then. In fact, in 1861 the town started to become a renowned beach resort and thanks to the inauguration of the Bologna – Ancona railway line, many wealthy families from the surrounding territories started to come here to spend their summer holidays.
Today, as in the past, Cattolica stands out as one of the most celebrated towns of the Adriatic coast, thanks to the cordiality and experience of those who run state of the art hotel and beach facilities, to which Cattolica owes the title of "Queen of the Adriatic". The Tombari Family is part of this history: we have tradition running in our blood, passed down to us by our great –great-grandfather Guglielmo, native to Gradara. He moved to Cattolica in 1926 and opened up a shelter and inn in Via Mazzini (he moved later on to Via Pascoli).
This same business was handed down to our great-grandfather Cesare, who also used to cultivate vines in our estate of Gradara. Grandfather Angelo, instead, had a great passion for the sea and loved to go fishing on a lugger in the summertime. Later on he became fond of the family tradition and set up several bathing establishments. He also bought a modern boat to bring tourists on sea trips.
Our present-day business, the Hotel Queen Mary, was set up by our father Sergio in 1969. In 1973 the family started to grow with the arrival of Maurizio Tombari followed by Vanessa in 1982. Thanks to them, business expands even further:
1994 Hotel Ambasciatori
2001 Residence Queen Mary
2003 Hotel Lido
2004 Hotel Mediterraneo di Pesaro
